Srinagar, Jan 5: The Indian Army on Thursday launched a massive search operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Nowshera sector to locate live bombs and IEDs along the Line of Control (LoC). During the search operation, the Army detected and defused live bombs and IEDs to avert casualties, reports news agency ANI.

Live bombs and IEDs were secretly planted along the LoC by Pakistan-based infiltrators with an aim to foment trouble for the security forces guarding the international borders. The Army used explosive detection devices and drone to locate live bombs and IEDs in Nowshera sector.

The move comes in the wake of fresh incidents of cross-border infiltration by a large number of Pakistan-backed terrorists. On Thursday, Border Security Force (BSF) troops foiled an infiltration bid, killing an intruder along the International Border in Jammu district.

IG BSF, Jammu frontier, Ram Awtar told PTI that troops observed the movement of two-three persons along the IB near Nikowal Border Out Post (BoP) in Arnia sector around 0545 hours. They challenged them and opened fire resulting in the death of one intruder, he said adding, the deceased was in his thirties. The other intruders managed to escape, he said.

A BSF spokesman said two Pakistani mortar positions were “located, targeted and destroyed by BSF troopers yesterday night only. The coordinated precision fire of BSF troopers silenced Pakistani guns”. On Wednesday, BSF jawan R P Hazra was killed in unprovoked firing by Pakistan.
