Blaze Rips Through Roof of Sherwood Family-owned Restaurant

SHERWOOD, Ark. -- An early morning blaze closes down a staple in the Sherwood community. It happened at Feastros on Kiehl Avenue around 8:30 this morning.
Mark Spaight stares up at what's left of the roof. "This is the actual air conditioner unit right here," says Spaight. Inside the kitchen of the Sherwood restaurant he's owned for three years. "We have actually been in the Sherwood area for 12 years, started in a 8 by 21 foot trailer," says Spaight.
His dream to expand his business - now, crumbled after an early morning fire. "I received a call about 8:30 this morning," says Spaight. "That there was smoke coming from the roof of the restaurant."
Fire officials say it may have started in an AC unit - "In the back half of the kitchen and totally destroyed the kitchen," says Spaight. He says he's had to share the bad news with his 20 employees. "I think about my people, I mean, a lot of them are going through something right now," he says.
And a post on the restaurants Facebook page - telling customers they're closed. "I can't say enough about the community, of Sherwood, they've just been family," says Spaight. No one was injured and the fire didn't spread outside the kitchen - "We quickly attacked the fire before it got into the roof and into the building," says Sherwood Fire Department Captain Jeff Conley.
Now, he's working to console his family as they figure out a way to get things back to normal. "The main thing is to try and keep her poised and work our way through it," says Spaight.
Spaight says his insurance company is working to figure out exactly how much damage was caused.
