The New Mastersounds back in Steamboat for double-header performances at Old Town Pub

British-based quartet New Mastersounds includes Eddie Roberts, guitarist and producer, Simon Allen on drums, Pete Shand on bass and Joe Tatton on keyboards. Catch them at Old Town Pub Friday and Saturday nights.

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — Buckle up for the instrumental safari ride of the British-based quartet, The New Mastersounds.

Back in town, the band will take over the Old Town Pub for two nights in the spotlight starting at 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Known for their infectious soul and irresistible bass lines since the late 1980s, the group emerged within the DJ scene of Leeds, England, thanks to guitarist and producer Eddie Roberts, who then met fellow members of the New Mastersounds — Simon Allen on drums and Pete Shand on bass — in 1999, and the group released its first two limited-edition, 7-inch singles in 2000.

Now, they have a repertoire of nine studio albums, two live albums, one remix album and three compilation albums. They have also welcomed a new member, Joe Tatton, on keyboards. He joined the group in 2007.

“They have this sweet, funky sound to them,” said Sean Regan, owner of Old Town Pub. “I would compare it to something like a high-speed driving pursuit, because everyone in the room may be bobbing their heads and feeling all of that energy at the same time and the same speed.”
