Guwahati, Jan 5: The Assam government published the first draft of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) on the intervening night of December 31 and January 1. As many as 1.9 crore people were included as legal citizens of India in the first draft of NRC. The NRC draft list can be checked online at nrcassam.nic.in, nrcdraft.in/NRCDraft, partdraftnrcassam.in, assam.mygov.in and assam.gov.in. To search your name in NRC draft list, visit nrcassam.nic.in or any of the website mentioned above and click on ‘Part Publication Of Draft NRC Is Now Active’. Click here to check your name in NRC draft. You can send an SMS from your pre-register mobile number to 97555655 or 9108464438 or 9108464450 in the format ‘ARN space ARN (number)’ to get information on the inclusion of your name in the NRC draft. If you are in Assam, you can dial 15107 to know the inclusion of his/her name in the NRC draft. Assamese living in other states can call on 18003453762.
The NRC draft is available at NRC Sewa Kendras (NSK) and can be checked between 8 am to 4 pm on all working days till January 31. NRC is a register containing names of Indian citizens, which was prepared for the only time in 1951 and is being updated for only Assam to weed out illegal immigrants. The state faced influx from Bangladesh since the early 20th century.
The Supreme Court, which is monitoring the entire process, had ordered that the first draft of the NRC be published by December 31 after completing the scrutiny of over two crore claims along with that of around 38 lakh people whose documents were suspect.
