MARTINEZ — Police here have arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of human trafficking and pimping, after officers identified a female victim, according to a news release.
The Martinez police news release does not include a time or date of arrest, but officers took Dennis Shafe, 32, into custody on the 3900 block of Alhambra Avenue after determining a female subject in his car was a victim of human trafficking.
Police say the investigation started with a suspicious car stop.
Police say Shafe, a Pennsylvania resident, had a .22 caliber pistol in his pocket when officers contacted him. He was arrested on suspicion of human trafficking, pimping, and illegal gun possession.
County prosecutors say they have not yet filed a case against Shafe, and authorities are still investigating “the extent of this human trafficking,” the news release says.
Shafe remains in County Jail in lieu of $1.145 million bond, according to jail records.
