A woman Sub-Inspector (SI) of Police on Thursday accused city GRP Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) Soubhagya Ranjan Swain of sexually harassing her and lodged a complaint in this regard at the Mahila police station.
Her statement was recorded under Section 161 of the CrPC.
Reports said the SI had earlier levelled charges of mental harassment against Swain in 2015. Based on the allegations, the Cuttack Railway SP had ordered the DSP to carry out a probe. But the DSP gave a clean chit to the IIC.
The accused IIC has refuted the allegations, saying the woman SI is trying to settle scores with him for personal reasons and damage his reputation. The IIC questioned that if she had been sexually harassed as far back as in 2015, why she did not disclose it earlier.
Swain claimed that as action was initiated against the SI for her unauthorised leave and her promotion was stopped, she is now trying to take revenge and tarnish his image.
Cuttack Railway SP Bana Bihari Sahu said, “A case has been registered against the IIC under Section 376 of IPC. The woman SI did not level any sexual harassment charges when she was questioned in 2015 after she brought mental harassment charges. So, an internal committee has been set up to investigate the matter and, accordingly, action will be taken.”
