The latest behavior of Hollywood stars, news celebrities and politicians concerning sexual misconduct is despicable and abhorrent.
There can be no excuse for repeated misconduct. Politicians should be held to the highest standard, for it is with them that the American people place their trust.
As repugnant and egregious as these politicians' misconduct is, it has exposed an even greater charade that should jolt the American public to action to eliminate the elitist treatment these politicians receive. They seem to know what is good for us common folk, but are reluctant to include themselves. The legislation they expect the American public to adhere to evidently does not pertain to them. This was highlighted in the Affordable Care Act, the insider-trading rules and now to the sexual harassment laws that apply to citizens and corporations but not to the government nor Congress.
Added to this pompous attitude are the millions of taxpayer dollars that have been expended on settlements for this bad behavior by our elected officials. That's our money — us common folk — paying for the indiscretions and egregious behavior of our elite politicians. And what is the remedy? Well, we are going to have a Congressional Ethics Committee inquiry. Check out its history.
So, here's my question: What is it that our elected officials — Dick Durbin, Tammy Duckworth and Darin LaHood — have proposed to correct this sexual conduct epidemic and this differential treatment?
Patiently awaiting an explanation. If you need my number, it's the same one you call at election time to solicit my vote.
