Nomination filing ends for VBU student union polls

| | Hazaribagh | in Ranchi

Filing of nomination papers for different posts of student unions of colleges and PG departments ended on Thursday. The VBU administration had given two days’ time for nomination this year but most of the student organizations failed to choose appropriate candidate in every college and in PG departments. Maximum nomination papers were filed in the last two hours of scheduled timing.

Though the student union election process was notified by VBU administration on last December 17 but in campuses first time the heat of elections became visible on January 3. From January 2 sale of nomination papers started everywhere but only a few student came to purchase it. From January 3 the student organizations changed gears and started coming into the campus with gathering either to purchase nomination papers or to file it.

On January 4 almost every campus of VBU where election is scheduled to be held echoed with slogans in favour of student organization and candidates. Like any other election first time it was seen here that the candidates came with their followers in the campuses with drums and band parties. In every campus flags of different student organizations remained flying all through the day.

In the first phase of this election the students of colleges and PG departments will choose their representatives. There are four posts in each unit and five student organizations namely ABVP, NSUI, JCM, JVCM and AIDSO are more active in this university since long. After the end of filing of nomination papers the number of final nominations for each post clearly speaks that some internal alliance has been made by the local leaders of NSUI and JVCM.

As per the data given by PRO of VBU Prof. Pramod Kumar in St. Columbas College 15 candidates have filed their nomination papers, in KV Womens’ College 16 have filed, in Markham College 13 have come in fray while in Annada College its number is 18. For 2 units of PG departments 27 nomination papers have been filed while in law college 15 candidates have submitted their papers. The figures of colleges outside Hazaribagh have not been received by VBU office yet. This year due to strict implementation of the recommendations of Lyngdoh Committee and prior preparation failed the attempts of all those student leaders who believe in managing everything.

Since the certified photocopy of attendance registers were taken by university administration on December 23 so those who were not fulfilling the criterion of attendance for candidature failed this time to manage things.

Last year winners were also preparing to fight once again but due to strict implementation of the committee’s recommendation they felt helpless this time.

Some students of semester V were returned back because they had not cleared semester I to IV exams without any break.

Everywhere the officers deputed for this work were seen checking the papers strictly.
