The Masmovil group ended 2017 as the big net winner in Spain’s mobile number porting figures, taking some 400,300 lines from its rivals in the 12 months ending on 31 December, reports El Pais. Masmovil’s Yoigo, Pepephone, Masmovil and Llamaya brands seized customers from the country’s mobile network operators (MNOs), all of which posted significant losses from number porting, led by Vodafone with a negative figure of 245,260 lines, followed by Orange with 137,340 net losses and Movistar (Telefonica) with 129,550.

The only two MVNOs with positive figures were ethnic operator Digi Mobil, which gained around 125,300 new clients in 2017, while Euskaltel ended the year with a net gain of 16,800 lines after acquiring Telecable Asturias and Galicia’s R.

The report added that the Masmovil group helped to stir up the portability market in 2017, with a total of 6.6 million ported numbers, nearly 1 million more than in 2016 and the highest figure since 2013, when 6.7 million users changed operator.
