Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg took to the social networking site today stating how he plans to make 2018 a better year for Facebook users. He took to the social media saying that he is taking on a new personal challenge this year, which is fixing Facebook. He mentions in the post how Facebook currently makes “too many errors enforcing our policies and preventing misuse of our tools” and how his personal challenge is to fix it. He further writes, “If we’re successful this year then we’ll end 2018 on a much better trajectory.” He lists “important issues” which needs to be focused as “protecting our community from abuse and hate, defending against interference by nation states, or making sure that time spent on Facebook is time well spent”.

He adds saying that encryption and the digital currency decentralizes power and hence he will explore how to use them on Facebook. His post reads, “With the rise of a small number of big tech companies — and governments using technology to watch their citizens — many people now believe technology only centralizes power rather than decentralizes it. There are important counter-trends to this –like encryption and cryptocurrency — that take power from centralized systems and put it back into people’s hands.”

Making a promise to himself, he concludes, “This will be a serious year of self-improvement and I’m looking forward to learning from working to fix our issues together.” Mark in the post reveals that he has set challenges for himself every year since 2009 after Facebook launched in 2004. In the post, he also wrote that his last year’s challenge was to visit all states of the United States and meet new people. He also read 25 books and read the language, Mandarin. He has also made an Artifical Intelligence for his home.
