The Isle of Man Government Laboratory is seeking an experienced microbiologist to head its microbiology section. The team undertakes primary water quality testing for the Island’s water supply, food testing for official food control purposes, the assessment of bathing water quality and occasional testing of other environmental samples.

The essential requirements are a degree (or equivalent) in microbiology or with a focus on microbiology, plus at least 5 years’ practical laboratory experience of microbiological examination of either food or water. 20 years’ practical experience of microbiological testing may be acceptable in lieu of a degree.

Although not a requirement for the post, candidates also holding the Mastership in Chemical Analysis qualification, or who are likely to attain it in the near future, may find the potential career development opportunity beyond this role to be of interest.
