Bitter cold to grip Rhode Island this weekend

As Rhode Islanders dig out from more than a foot of snow, they will need to deal with the bitter aftermath.

Just when you thought it couldn't get any colder, Friday's temperatures are not expected to go beyond 14 degrees, even under sunny skies. It will drop to minus 1 at night, and Saturday's daytime temperatures are expected to hit only 7, dropping to minus 5 degrees at night, according to the National Weather Service.

Making matters worse are the high winds.

Friday's westerly winds of 14 to 16 mph, with gusts around 33, will make it feel as cold as -7 during the day and -17 at night, the Weather Service says. Northwest winds in the mid-30-mph range will continue on Saturday.

It will continue to be cold on Sunday, with highs nearing 13, but it's expected to warm into the mid 30s on Monday, with another chance of snow or rain by Monday night into Tuesday morning.
