Egypt's Salah wins CAF 2017 African player of the year

(MENAFN - Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, Jan 5 (KUNA) -- Egypt and Liverpool winger Mohammad Salah won the Confederation of African Football's 2017 African player of the year award at a ceremony in Ghana's capital, Accra on Friday.

The Egyptian national team, The Pharaohs, and its Argentine head coach Hector Cuper also took awards for best national side and best coach, respectively.

Upon receiving his award, Salah, in a speech, dedicated his achievement to the "children of Egypt and Africa." Salah was arguably his national team talisman as he led Egypt to their first World Cup in 28 years and is currently England's top scorer with 23 goals in all competitions.

Meanwhile, best club went to Morocco's Wydad Athletic, who recently won the CAF Champions League. (end) asm.sd
