Dennis E. Hoaglund, 69, of Holstein, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, at Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee, Iowa.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church in Holstein, with the Rev. Doresa K. Collogan officiating. Burial will be in Holstein Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, at Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home in Holstein. Online condolences can be made at nickladjensenfh.com.
Dennis Eugene Hoaglund was born on July 22, 1948, to Elmer and Delores (Boock) Hoaglund, in Cherokee, Iowa. He was a graduate of Holstein High School.
He was united in marriage to Bonnie Alioth on Sept. 27, 1974 in Holstein. They raised three children, Tim, Julie and Amy. Denny, a lifelong Holstein resident, worked at Holstein Lumber, Williams Lumber and retired from Menards in 2013. He also delivered the Sioux City Journal for many years.
He was a member of Holstein United Methodist Church. Denny enjoyed woodworking, fishing, attending his children and grandchildren's activities. Family was very important to him and he loved them with all of his heart. He enjoyed his yearly trips to Wyoming to visit family. Denny never knew a stranger and always had a story to share.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Hoaglund of Holstein; son, Tim Hoaglund of Leesburg, Va.; daughters, Julie (Tim) Boekhout of Rock Rapids, Iowa, and Amy (TJ) Deeds of Pinedale, Wyo.; grandchildren, Brennan (Katie) Hoaglund of Spencer, Iowa, Brandt and Brecken Boekhout of Rock Rapids, and Madelynn and Treyton Deeds of Pinedale; his brother, Doug (Cindy) Hoaglund of Hartley, Iowa; sister, Diane (Charles) Murphy of Farwell, Mich.; mother-in-law, Bernice Alioth; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Denny was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Fred Alioth; and several aunts and uncles.
