Cabinet transforms Vigilance into anti-corruption PS
Direct flights from Imphal to Delhi twice a week on Sundays and Tuesdays starting from next week

Imphal, January 04 2018: With a view to check corruption and graft practices in the State, a Cabinet meeting held today decided to transform the State Vigilance Commission into an Anti-Corruption Police Station.

The Cabinet meeting held in the conference hall of the Chief Minister's Secretariat was chaired by Chief Minister N Biren.

Speaking to media persons after the Cabinet meeting, N Biren informed that the Anti-Corruption Police Station has been commissioned with immediate effect after inducting requisite manpower.

Earlier, the Vigilance Commission used to investigate a complaint and recommended necessary actions after due investigation.

But the State Cabinet has authorised the particular police station to collect information about any case, arrest suspects and even file charge sheets to Courts.

As promised by the new Government, there would be direct flights from Imphal to Delhi twice a week on Sundays and Tuesdays starting from the second week of January, Biren stated.

Air Asia would also introduce direct flights from Imphal to Delhi from the first week of April this year.

Air Asia has assured that their flight schedule which would be revised after February would cover Imphal, conveyed the Chief Minister.

With regard to a news item published in a local daily paper on January 4 about the issue of supplying sub-standard belts to Manipur Police, Chief Minister N Biren clarified that the State Government ordered an enquiry into the supply of uniforms and web equipment items to Police Department during the year 2013-14.The enquiry committee submitted its report and said that 20,000 leather belts amounting to Rs 23,40,000 supplied by M/S Md Abdul Gani Khan were found to be defective and poor in quality.

Accordingly, an FIR was lodged against M/S Md Abdul Gani Khan and investigation is going on.

The supplier was also blacklisted.

However, as the High Court of Manipur quashed the order of blacklisting the supplier, the particular order issued by the Home Department was revoked.

Nonetheless, the State Government served a show cause notice to M/S Md Abdul Gani Khan.

Moreover, two serving officers of the Line Committee namely SP Faumei Gonglin (then 2nd MR CO) and Addl SP M Kumarjit (then 1st MR AC) were suspended on the basis of the enquiry report while the pension of retired IGP S Manglemjao, then chairman of the Line Committee has been withheld, Biren stated.

Even though the State Government has revoked the suspension order of the two officers, an order has been issued for prosecution of the two officers under Manipur Public Servant Personal Liability Act.

The Finance Department has been asked to conduct the proceedings under the Manipur Public Servant Personal Liability Act.

A departmental enquiry has also been initiated against them.

As for the retired IGP, the State Government has written to the Ministry of Home Affairs for institution of disciplinary proceedings against him, said the Chief Minister.
