After a stunning 2017 in which he claimed two Grand Slam titles to take his career haul to 19, Federer is dreaming of another big year on the ATP Tour circuit.

With the Australian Open just around the corner, the Swiss hero will be confident of clinching his sixth crown.

Andy Murray will not be participating, while Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic are fighting to be fit in time for the first Major of the season.

And three-time Aussie Open champion Laver is in no doubt that Federer could be the man to beat again.

“Roger at 36, he’s still playing as well as he did when he was 21,” he said.

When asked whether there could be a changing of the guard insofar as the ‘Big Four’ goes, Laver added: “It depends on how fit Djokovic and Murray are and whether Rafa and Roger can still stay and play the same as they have done

“The racquet has helped them, the speed and control they get on the ball.”

Federer is hitting good form and beat Jack Sock 7-6, 7-5 at the Hopman Cup.

The 36-year-old however, has made no suggestion that retirement is on his mind yet.

When asked about his plans after the win over Sock, he said: “It’s a great feeling and it’s so much fun playing in front of you guys.

“I’m happy I’ve got another doubles coming. I hope Belinda [Bencic] wins here singles so we’re through to the final. That would be nice. Other than that, I’ll enjoy the doubles.

“Hopefully we’ll see you next year. What happens… hopefully I can come back again and break another record. Who knows?”
