GALESBURG — Galesburg police have a suspect in an aggravated robbery late last week at a local Shell station.
According to a Galesburg police report, authorities responded to Shell Express, 1975 Grand Ave., at about 6:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29, for a robbery in progress.
Witnesses told police that a man approached the counter with about $110 worth of merchandise, such as chips and cigarettes, and told the cashier to open the drawer.
The cashier at first thought it was a joke and even asked the man, "You even have a gun?"
The man then implied he had a gun by putting his hand in his pocket, but a firearm was not displayed or seen by anyone else in the store at the time.
The cashier left the counter to get a cellphone to call police and the man took cash from the register and the goods and ran. He was stopped by a person outside the store who punched him in the face, but he got away by running through backyards and jumping fences.
