Luton Town boss Nathan Jones admits he still believes in the “romance of the FA Cup” as he prepares to take on Newcastle United at St James’ Park.

All eyes will be on the team sheets at 2pm tomorrow to see how many players are rested by United after lots of changes last season.

United aren’t in great form at home either after going 287 minutes without scoring in front of their own fans.

The Hatters are deadly serious about winning at St James’ and are having a two-night stay at a hotel and spa on Tyneside as they look to cause shockwaves in the competition.

Backed by around 7,000 fans this is a clash United must stay firmly focused in if they are to improve their woeful record in this competition.

Speaking ahead of the game, Jones said: “It’ll be a wonderful occasion in terms of pitting our wits against a Premier League outfit, and that’s the beauty of the Cup.

“It’s the romance of the Cup and it’s about time we had a real romantic one, so we are pleased.

“It’ll be a fantastic occasion going up there, it’s a wonderful stadium full of tradition and they’re coming back to good times.

“It’s a great tie for us.”

Luton go into the tie at Newcastle as League Two leaders having notched 62 goals in their division and looking certainties to win automatic promotion.

The Hatters held a packed Press conference before heading north which included former Toon skipper Rob Lee, father of Luton stars Elliot and Olly.

Talking about his sons, Lee, speaking in the Telegraph, said: “I’m proud of them and, if I’m being honest, I think both of them are suited to a higher league.

“I might be a little bit biased, but I’ve been in the game for a long time and I know when people can play football.

“I’m looking forward to Luton getting promotion and seeing how they get on in a higher division.”
