Mumbai Crime: Schoolgirl stabbed by youth inside Bhayandar subway

Mumbai: Less than 12 hours after brutally stabbing a 14-year-old school girl in front of her mother in Bhayandar, a 22-year-old youth was arrested from Kandivali on Wednesday evening. While the 14-year-school girl (name withheld), who sustained multiple stab injuries is recuperating, the youth, identified as Vinod Kashyab (22), who did odd jobs for a living, has been arrested and booked under the relevant sections of the IPC and the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
Accompanied by her mother, the standard IX girl student was headed to school when Vinod, who was apparently following, accosted them inside Jesal Park subway near Bhayandar railway station at around 7 am on Wednesday. He pushed the girl’s mother away and before the girl could react, the accused pulled out a knife from his pocket and slashed her four times on her neck, stomach and face. The accused then fled the spot.
The girl was rushed to Centenary Hospital, where her condition is now said to be out of danger. A police team led by Senior Police Inspector Rajendra Kamble swung into action and apprehended Vinod from Kandivali, a few hours after the crime.
“Since they reside in the same locality, the accused was known to the girl and her family. As per preliminary investigations, it appears that the crime is the fall-out of a one-sided affair,” said Kamble. The accused was sent to custody after he was produced before the District Sessions Court, Thane on Thursday. Further investigations are underway.
