Beloved U.S. game show host Alex Trebek has been forced to step away from hosting Jeopardy! to recover from head surgery.

Production on the daily show has been put on hiatus to allow the 77-year-old native of Sudbury, Ont. to recuperate.

Trebek was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on Dec. 15 after experiencing complications from hitting his head in a fall in October. He was diagnosed with a subdural hematoma and underwent surgery.

He is expected to make a full recovery and will resume taping Jeopardy! in mid-January.
