Revenue Minister Prem Prakash Pandey announced on Thursday said that as per the amendments made in the provisions of Chhattisgarh’s Land Revenue Act, only Central and State Government and its public sector units would be able to purchase land in notified areas from private persons with mutual understanding for development purposes.

Addressing a press conference here, the Minister said that to acquire notified land, the permission from the land owners had been made mandatory.

He said that without the consent of the farmers and the other land sellers, even State Government cannot buy land from them.

Pandey said the State and Centre buy privately owned land for taking up development projects when Government land is not available.

He said that no land can be transferred to any private person or institution which had been purchased by the Government from private persons in notified areas for development projects.

The Minister said that sometimes it takes a long time for the State and Central Government to acquire land in notified areas for taking up development projects. 'The amendments made in the law would now make it easy to purchase land', he said.
