Lakeith Stanfield, who recently appeared in Get Out and Death Note, is joining the cast of Sony’s Girl in the Spider’s Web.
Fede Alvarez is directing the project that the studio hopes will relaunch the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo franchise.
Claire Foy is on board as hacker Lisbeth Salander and Swedish actor Sverrir Gudnason is playing rule-breaking journalist Mikael Blomkvist. Sylvia Hoeks, who appeared in Blade Runner 2049, is also on the call sheet.
Stanfield will play a NSA security expert who is tracking Salander and believes she has stolen sensitive government information.
The movie is due to begin shooting in Europe later in January.
David Beaubaire is overseeing the movie for the studio. Amy Pascal and Elizabeth Cantillon are producing with Scott Rudin and Yellow Bird.
Stanfield played a key role in Get Out, appearing as the mysterious man who is married to a much older white woman. Among his other feature credits are turns in Dope and Selma, and stole scenes portraying Snoop Dogg in Straight Outta Compton.
He is repped by CAA, Stark Management and Ginsburg Daniels.
