New Delhi, Jan 05: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Amit Shah  is expected to deliver his maiden speech in Rajya Sabha on Friday. He is likely to speak on the Goods and Services Tax (GST) bill, which has been fiercely criticised by the Congress president Rahul Gandhi during last month’s Gujarat Assembly elections.

The introduction of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) is projected by the BJP as a major tax reform. The BJP president had earlier said the new tax regime had led to an “economic integration” of the country.

“Shah would deliver his speech on the proposed legislation, which sought to replace an ordinance issued in September to give effect to certain decisions of the GST Council,” a BJP leader had informed news agency PTI.

The ongoing Winter Session of Parliament is scheduled to conclude on Friday. Amit Shah had made his maiden entry to Parliament during the session as a Rajya Sabha member.

He has been allocated the aisle seat right next to the two-seat block where BJP’s Leader of the House and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Prime Minister Narendra Modi sit.  Earlier the seat was occupied by M Venkaiah Naidu, who after being elected Vice President in August is now the Chairman of Rajya Sabha.
