Rockin’ Chair, a reunion of ’70s regional bands Mesa and Nickels, performs the music of Buffalo Springfield; the Byrds; Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young; the Allman Brothers Band; the Doobie Brothers and more. The band plays two nights this weekend at the Old Rock House. Comedian Corey Holcomb had one of the big New Year’s Eve shows in St. Louis in 2016, performing at Chaifetz Arena. For his return to St. Louis, he has three nights lined up at Helium Comedy Club. “I’m the voice of not only the men, but the men and women who like the truth,” Holcomb, who describes himself as the “black Dr. Phil,” told the Post-Dispatch. St. Louis’ Mardi Gras season kicks off with Twelfth Night, starting with a petition to Mardi Gras directors for another season of the pre-Lenten tradition. Revelers then will celebrate with a march through Soulard, ending with the coronation of the festival king. New this year, the event begins and ends at Soulard Market Park. Other events include the Snowman Softball Tournament (Jan. 13-14), Family Winter Carnival (Jan. 20), Beer, Wine and Whiskey Taste (Jan. 26), Cajun Cook-Off (Jan. 27), Run for Your Beads 5K (Feb. 3), Taste of Soulard (Feb. 3-4), Beggin’ Pet Parade and Wiener Dog Derby (Feb. 4), Mayor’s Ball (Feb. 9) and Grand Parade (Feb. 10). There are Elvis Presley impersonators, and then there’s Steve Davis, who, with the Midsouth Revival, makes his annual trek to the Pageant this weekend. The show also features Rivertown Sound & Double Trouble, Thomas Hickey as Buddy Holly and Shanna Fredrick as Patsy Cline. Great Rivers Greenway has selected the work of four design teams in its competition to create conceptual plans to connect Forest Park and Washington University to downtown and the Gateway Arch and link the neighborhoods to the north and south.
