Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday assured the Lok Sabha that no citizen or resident is being driven out of Assam following the publication of first draft of National Register of Citizens.
Making a brief intervention during Zero Hour, Mr Singh said the allegation that people are being driven out of Assam after the publication of the first draft is “baseless”.
He said even the Supreme Court has said that there is “no need” to apprehend anything if a person’s name does not appear in the first draft. They can always bring it to the notice of the authorities, the Home Minister said.
