Alvaro Morata missed a host of chances against Arsenal

Morata missed a host of chances yesterday in the 2-2 draw with Arsenal and has come under fire for his performances.

The Spain striker has scored 10 Premier League goals since joining Chelsea from Real Madrid.

And while he has impressed in England last night’s show has brought up questions about his ability to replace Diego Costa long term.

And Zola admits he wad disappointed with his display.

“It’s very difficult to be too hard on him because his work rate is really good. Even yesterday, he really is a player who works for the team,” Zola told talkSPORT.

“But, to be honest, yesterday I was a little bit disappointed.

“Morata, in my opinion, has the quality to be a really top, top player, but when you see him miss those goals, especially the one in the first half, you expect him to be a little bit cooler in front of the goalkeeper.

“He needs to be a bit more ruthless.

“He’s a player of amazing qualities, but one of the things I had some doubts about when he came to Chelsea was whether he was tough and ruthless enough.”

Morata, 25, has only scored three goals in his last 10 games, well behind the likes of Harry Kane and Mohamed Salah.

And Chelsea’s title defence is already over as they sit 16 points behind leaders Manchester City.

Costa meanwhile scored on his second debut for Atletico Madrid last night after finally being allowed to play from the beginning of this month.
