Paul Pogba BRUTALLY slammed: Eamon Dunphy reveals why he’s the wrong player for Man Utd

MANCHESTER UNITED star Paul Pogba is only worth a fraction of the £89m fee that took him from Juventus to Old Trafford in 2016.

Manchester United star Paul Pogba has approached his best form at Old Trafford this season

That’s the damning verdict of former Red Devils youth team player Eamon Dunphy, who’s suggested the midfielder is some way off the quality the Red Devils need.

Pogba returned to United 18 months ago and was immediately expected to take Jose Mourinho’s side back to the top of the Premier League.

He struggled to hit the heights he reached at Juventus though and only this season has he looked close to the player he’s been talked up as.

United legend Paul Scholes took aim at Pogba in the wake of his old side’s draw with Southampton last weekend, suggesting he must up his game.

And Dunphy agrees with his fellow pundit, claiming United would be better off without the Frenchman being on their books.

"There's an awful lot of hype merchants in the media and in the game saying that Pogba is an outstanding, but I agree with everything that Scholes has said," said Dunphy on RTE 2fm's Game On show.

"Paul Scholes is well qualified as a commentator, he was a great player. He calls things as he sees it and we should be grateful for that. This 'magician' called Pogba, well he never turns up.

"A price tag of £90m, well that's ridiculous. Pogba is not good enough.

"No matter what system Paul Pogba plays in, he is not a top player. United would be better off without him. He's okay, if you paid £20m, you'd think you'd be getting a good deal.

Jose Mourinho splashed out £89m to sign Manchester United star Paul Pogba from Juventus

"He's on the fringes of games, he hits these long 40-yard balls that are like lasers but they look better than they are.

"He doesn't really have a football brain. When I look at games, I know where Pogba should be. Most of the guys writing about Pogba don't have the knowledge to know what he should be doing.

"He's pretty ordinary, he's never going to get you more than eight or nine goals a season.

"At £90m, it was a statement signing from United. In other words: 'We are Manchester United and we are in the big league, we can sign big cheques'. Pogba was the wrong guy to sign the cheque for."

Pogba will be out to silence his critics when United take on Derby in the FA Cup third round on Friday night.
