In order to improve traffic system and put check on road accidents in the provisional State Capital the Dehradun District Magistrate SA Murugesan presided over a meeting with the district officers at his camp office on Wednesday. The officers of transport, police, education and other departments were present in the meeting.
The District Magistrate expressed concern at the deteriotated state of traffic in the city especially during school hours and the rise in frequency of accidents. He directed the district officers to fix the routes of school buses. An arrangement for plying additional buses in the city should be made and a concrete plan regarding the same should be drafted, he said, adding that data from the school authorities should be collected highlighting how many students studying in Class V to Class XII are using school buses for their transportation; how many students are using their own vehicles and how many students are dropped and picked by their parents from the school. The chief education officer was directed to write a letter to the schools seeking this information.
The objective behind plying additional school buses in the city is to improve traffic system during school hours and put a check on road accidents in the city, the DM added.
He directed transport and police officers to convene a meeting with school buses’ operators regarding the operation of their buses during school time. The condition of those buses which are being operated as school bus should be good.
SP Traffic, assistant regional transport officer and CO Traffic have been directed to fix the routes of school buses. The department officers concerned have been directed to prepare complete plan for the same and present it in the next meeting. Others present on the occasion were Dehradun senior superintendent of police Nivedita Kukreti, managing director transport, Brijesh Kumar, SP Traffic Dhirendra Singh Gunjyal, chief education officer Dr SB Joshi, assistant regional transport officer Arvind Pandey, CO Traffic and others.
