DANGER: 5.7m UK skiers have either been in a drunken accident on the piste or have seen one

Researchers found 5.7million UK skiers had either been in a drunken accident on the piste or had seen one.

And it is estimated nearly 400,000 more will ski or snowboard while tipsy this year.

More than half of those polled said ski-boozing should be banned, but two-thirds still felt it gave them more confidence.

Direct Line travel insurance chief Tom Bishop said they were putting themselves and other skiers around them at risk.

“We are advising anyone enjoying a winter sports break to indulge in moderation to ensure that they do not wake up with more than just a sore head the next day.”

The survey also found that those enjoying après-ski fun downed an average six pints a night.
