New Delhi, Jan 4: At a time when the international community is deliberating over imposing fresh sanctions on North Korea, the country’s mercurial leader Kim Jong-Un has found some support in India. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has sparked a row by praising North Korea for its stand against the United States.
“North Korea has been following tough anti USA agenda. North Korea has successfully defended the pressure imposed by US,” Pinarayi Vijayan said at CPM Kozhikode district committee meeting earlier this week.
Speaking at the meeting, the veteran Communist leader also reportedly said that China ha failed in countering imperialist forces. Not ony Vijayan, CPM’s Kerala State Secratary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan also praised North Korea.
“America aims to destroy North Korea which is moving ahead with socialist ideology,” Balakrishnan said.
Not The First Time
This is not for the first time that North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un has found support among Kerala leaders. In December 2017, CPM activist had put up a poster during an event showcasing Kim Jong-Un’s photo.
The party, however, later clarified that the photo was put up by some party cadres by mistake. (Also Read: North Korean Defector Found Immune to Anthrax. Is Kim Jong-Un Regime Testing Biological Weapons?)
Kim Jong-Un vs Donald Trump
Vijayan’s statement has come at a time when the US President Donald Trump and Kim Jong-Un are involved in a bitter war of words. Donald Trump on Wednesday matched North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un’s nuclear war threat, saying he possessed a much “bigger and more powerful” nuclear button than him.
Mocking Kim Jong-Un’s regime as “food deprived”, Trump said, “North Korean Leader Kim Jong-Un just stated that the ‘Nuclear Button is on his desk at all times.’ Will someone from his depleted and food starved regime please inform him that I too have a Nuclear Button, but it is a much bigger & more powerful one than his, and my Button works!” (Also Read: Nuclear Button is Always on my Desk: Kim Jong-Un)
Trump’s tweet was in response to the North Korean leader’s New Year statement in which he claimed to have a nuclear button on his office table. “The entire mainland of the US is within the range of our nuclear weapons and the nuclear button is always on the desk of my office. They should accurately be aware that this is not a threat but a reality,” Kim Jong-un reportedly said in his address to the nation.
