Bette "Sue" West

September 11, 1930 - December 25, 2017

Our Mom, Nanny, and friend passed peacefully to her final destination the evening of December 25, 2017. Although we miss her terribly, she lived her whole life (by example) for this moment and we know she is finally dancing with the angels.

Sue was born in Arkansas and moved to California at the age of 13 with her parents and two siblings. She graduated from Polytechnic High School, Long Beach in 1948. In December of that year, on a blind date, she met James and in March of 1949 she became Mrs. James West. They were married until his passing in 2005. Sue spent nearly 30 years running the payroll department at the Long Beach Press Telegram where she earned the title of "Super Sue." After retirement in 1989, the Wests moved to the outskirts of Medford to start the next chapter of their lives. Tending the small farm and spending endless time with their grandchildren, really was "living the dream" for them.

Mom will be missed by her son, Mike (Jolena) West; daughter, Susan Mann; grandchildren, Michael, Cindy, Tiffany, Helen, Becky, Marc, Brittney, Casey, and Jonathon West; and Dillon, Kylee and Ryan Mann; 20 great-grandchildren, plus one due January 2018; as well as her adopted Walker family. Sue was preceded in death by her son, Mark in 1993. Our lives will never be the same as she was forever our prayer warrior and safe place.

Mom would like to thank Paula Jones and her caregivers, Heidi, Laura, and Nichole for all the love and compassion they showed her these last nine months. She loved you!

Sue was laid to rest with her husband at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Her celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 6, 2018, at Medford First Church of the Nazarene, 1974 E McAndrews Rd., Medford, OR 97504.
