Doha: The fifth ‘Katara Tech Forum' hosted by the Cultural Village Foundation-Katara at Katara Drama Theatre showcased a number of pioneering projects in the field of information and digital technology.
One of the innovative projects presented was the ‘Epilert Wristband' which was created to reduce an epileptic's risk of personal injury and potential injuries to others due to loss of control or awareness of one's body as well as to provide a medical care report to doctors. Firas Rahim presented a review of the project at the forum.
A mobile phone charger which charges using walking movement was presented by Rabaa Ahmed. The portable gadget entails approximately 5,000 steps to charge.
Thaqafa Podcast Project, which is a live station that provides the listener various Arabic audio content ranging from poetry to history to stories, was presented by Abdelaziz Al Anani and Abdullah Taha.
The forum also featured a seminar on the government services in Qatar delivered by Walid Jalal and web and a lecture on user experience portals by Nawras Deyaa.
Held every first Wednesday of the month, the forum aims to promote public awareness on the latest advances in the field of information and digital technology.
'The fifth Katara Tech Forum sheds light on the fruitful cooperation with official institutions, government bodies and different sectors in the country, with a noble aim to create an ideal environment for creativity and innovation. Furthermore, the forum provides platform for Qatari youth to access the latest developments, projects and initiatives related to the IT field, said Katara General Manager Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti.
By hosting the Forum, Katara intends to attract experts and specialists to present their innovations which will be beneficial in developing various sectors within the field of information technology, in line with the goals targeted by Qatar's 2030 National Vision, said Al Sulaiti.
'We hope that our efforts will culminate in finding better means to make our world cope with the rapid and unprecedented technological revolution today, and that this Forum will offer real opportunities to Qatari youth as they march towards the future equipped with knowledge and hope, he added.
An open forum, which saw the active participation of the audience, was held following the presentations.
The event concluded with a ceremony which honoured the participants for their efforts in educating the public on new IT trends.
An exhibition of the different projects was also held on the sidelines of the forum.
