Letter: Less risque apparel reduces harassment risk

Men's sexual harassment of women could be greatly reduced if women always wore burkas outside their homes. Men want to touch women because Western women wear apparel that displays and even accentuates their femaleness. Men by nature are chasers, and Western women in dress and deportment often, consciously or not, invite the chase.

When a man's gaze is too intense or his hands too curious, the woman may then complain that the attention is unwanted. The solution, practiced in some cultures since antiquity, is obvious: Make women less desirable outside the home. The traditional burka does this nicely.

As a U.S. government employee having been posted in Iraq for a year as a young man, I can personally attest to the effectiveness of the burka.

Cut sexual harassment. Bring on the burka.
