KANPUR: The City Police on Wednesday night claimed to have unearthed a sex racket allegedly being run from a flat in
Pheelkhana and arrested seven including four women. All of them have been booked for immortal trafficking.
The arrested accused include
Barkha Mishra, who is the king-pin of the racket, Navjeet Singh alias Toffy, a resident of
Nazirabad area of the City, Gaurav of Lal Bangla area of Chakeri and Shekhar Gupta, a resident of Tilak nagar area of the City, besides three other female members of the racket.
SSP Akhilesh Kumar Meena said they had received a specific information from IG zones office that about seven persons, including four women and three men, were indulging in immoral activities and could be caught red-handed if a raid was conducted at a flat in Surya Tower in Patkapur locality under the limits of Pheelkhana police station in the City.
He said a police team, headed by Circle Officer
Kotwali Ajay Kumar and Circle Officer (Sadar) Sameeksha Pandey, besides SHO
Kotwali Rishikant Shukla raided the flat being taken on rent allegedly by the king-pin of the racket -Barkha Mishra of Ratan Apartment
Azad nagar and found all accused in a compromising position. The SSP said during preliminary investigation, it was revealed that Barkha and Navjeet were running a sex racket in a rented flat of a City-based lawyer.
SP (East) Anurag Arya said that the accused were earning a handsome income. "The girls were being made available to customers against payment of hefty sum of Rs 10,000 to 15,000. The racketeers were hiring girls from metro cities like Delhi and Mumbai. They were using hi-tech WhtsAp and other Social networking sites and even providing door service to customers in the City," said SP (East) further and added the place was hired on rent for running a news agency office. Police have also recovered fake Press cards of some media house and huge number of visiting cards of Anti-Corruption committee, besides objectionable porn material from the spot.
He said a case under Sections 3, 4, 5 and 6 of the Immoral Trafficking Prevention Act, 1956, has been registered against the accused. The accused have been produced in a local court and sent to jail.
