'They're demoralising Britain!' Lord Owen launches SCATHING attack on moaning Remainers

FORMER Foreign Secretary Lord David Owen blasted Remoaners for their "demoralising" anti-Brexit campaign despite the "positive" aspects of leaving the European Union.

The Brexiteer, who argues the UK’s global influence can be enhanced after it leaves the Brussels bloc, harshly reprimanded Remainers’ attempt to undermine Brexit.

Lord Owen said: "Why do we spend our whole time doing ourselves down? Why do we have, day after day, stories aimed at demoralising, aimed at sharpening against it? Who are these people who can’t take defeat in a referendum?

"Who spends their whole time on this issue? There is a positive story."

Brexit news - Lord Owen said Remainers needed to accept the results of the EU Referendum

The independent social democrat dismissed claims Britain would lose its position on the international stage, saying the UK would keep a "great deal of enterprise" after leaving the EU.

And he also praised younger generation of Britons "taking to hand" the challenges of Brexit in spite of a majority of them voting to maintain membership of the bloc.

Speaking to BBC HARDTalk, Lord Owen continued: "We are a very great country still, we have a great deal of courage, enterprise, energy in our young people.

"I know a lot of them would have wished to stay but what I like to see about those younger people is that they are much more, in my view, turning their hand to the challenge in front of them."

Who are these people who can’t take defeat in a referendum?

Lord David Owen

It comes after Europhile former PM Tony Blair claimed Britain needed a second Brexit referendum.

Mr Blair said he accepted the results of the 2016 EU Referendum but that people did not fully anticipate the implications of the historic vote.

He said: "Once the debate is put before the people, they are entitled to think again. Why shouldn't we be entitled? As the debate proceeds, when we see what the alternative is, we are entitled to say we don't believe that's what's best for our country.

"Open up the dialogue with European leaders about reforming Europe, a dialogue they're more than willing to have now because they realise Brexit also damages Europe economically and politically."
