New Delhi, Jan 4: Two men convicted of kidnapping and murdering a woman executive, who worked in a top MNC, in Delhi in 2009 will not be hanged to death as the Delhi High Court on Thursday commuted their death sentence to life imprisonment. Jigish Ghosh was killed in March 2009.
Two death row convicts – Ravi Kapoor and Amit Shukla – had challenged the trial court’s verdict against them. The third convict in the case – Baljeet Malik – was awarded life imprisonment by the trial court.
The trial court had referred death penalty case to the high court for confirmation of the sentence within 30 days of the pronouncement of the verdict on July 14, 2016.
Jigisha, 28, who worked with Hewitt Associate Pvt Ltd as an operations manager, was kidnapped and killed on March 18, 2009 after her office cab dropped her near her home in Vasant Vihar area in south Delhi around 4 AM. Jigisha’s body was found on March 20, 2009 near Surajkund in Haryana.
The three accused are also under trail in the murder case of journalist Soumya Vishwanathan who was found shot dead in her car on September 30, 2008 while returning home after work around 3.30 AM.
