Bitter cold to grip Rhode Island this weekend

As Rhode Islanders dig out from more than a foot of snow, they will need to deal with the bitter aftermath.

Just when you thought it couldn't get any colder, Friday's temperatures are not expected to go beyond 14 degrees, dropping to minus 2 at night, and Saturday's daytime temperatures are expected to hit only 8, dropping to minus 8 degrees at night, according to the National Weather Service.

Making matters worse are the high winds.

Friday's westerly winds of 14 to 17 mph, with gusts nearing 40, will make it feel as cold as -8 during the day and -18 at night, the Weather Service says. Northwest winds in the 30-mph range will continue on Saturday.

It won't be quite as cold on Sunday, with highs nearing 17, and could warm into the low 30s on Monday, with another chance of snow or rain by Monday night.
