A 1-year-old boy died after his mother accidentally hit him while backing her SUV Wednesday night at their home in Larose, the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office said.
Cai Crosby was pronounced dead at Ochsner St. Anne Hospital in Raceland, Sheriff Craig Webre said in a news release.
Webre said no charges have been filed against his mother, 35-year-old Tralyn Crosby. Investigators don't suspect impairment or foul play.
"This is a horrible tragedy for this family and the community," Webre said. "My heart goes out to the family, and I pray they can find peace in such a difficult time."
Webre said deputies responded to the home on La. 1 about 9:40 p.m. Lafourche Ambulance transported the boy to the hospital.
Sheriff's Lt. Brennan Matherne said Tralyn Crosby's husband and two other sons were at home at the time. Investigators believe Cai followed her outside without her knowledge.
