BARTOW — A 68-year-old woman has been charged with stealing a wallet from a Dollar General store in Mulberry, the Polk County Sheriff's Office reported.

Verlin Sue Wilson was charged with three misdemeanors — theft, petty theft and unlawful use of personal identification.

The wallet contained $200 to $250.

Connie Crow told detectives that she accidentally left her wallet near the cash register at the store on Church Street on Dec. 19.

Video surveillance shows Crow leaving the wallet on the counter at 10:47 a.m. Two minutes later, another customer approaches the counter and pays with cash from the wallet.

On Tuesday, the Sheriff's Office received a phone call from Conley Bail Bonds in Bartow. The caller said a woman had come into the office to turn herself in for the theft, deputies reported.
