BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) " Prosecutors have asked the Louisiana Supreme Court to reinstate an eight-year prison sentence for a man convicted of vehicular homicide charges over a crash that killed five people in 2011.
In November, a state appeals court reduced David Leger's conviction to negligent homicide and ordered him to be resentenced.
The Advocate reports that the East Baton Rouge Parish district attorney's office has asked the state's highest court to reinstate Leger's conviction and sentence. Prosecutors argue the appellate court disregarded evidence that alcohol was a factor in the crash on Interstate 10 in Baton Rouge.
Another driver, Kelsye Hall, was convicted of negligent homicide charges and sentenced to two years in prison.
Witnesses testified Leger and Hall were engaged in a high-speed game of "cat and mouse" just before the wreck.
