Hospital ‘wrongly’ operates on youth, charges Rs 82 lakh

| | Gurugram

In yet another case of medical negligence reported in the Millennium City, Paras Hospital Gurugram charged more than Rs 82 lakh from a 24-year-old youth from Hisar disrtict after wrongly operating his neck. The kin of the patient alleged that the neck operation had earlier been conducted at the hospital in Hisar, but the doctors at the Paras Hospital wrongly operated him  as there was no need of operation.

The complainant, Jangbir Pahal, who comes from Bhiwani district in Haryana, lodged a complaint with the Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar  on November 17, 2017. In his complain, he stated that in June 2017 his nephew, Sunil (24), who hails from Hisar in Haryana, was  taking bath in a canal in Hisar when he suffered head and neck injuries. "Sunil is now on ventilator we had filed a complaint with the Prime Minister, Chief Minister and Health Minister of Haryana. As of now, no concerned official contacted us. Also, more than Rs 82 lakh has already been paid to the hospital. We hope will get some relief from the Government soon," Jangbir, said.

Soon after the incident, he was operated at a hospital in Hisar, where the doctors conducted an operation on his neck and advised them that Sunil required a neurosurgeon treatment because he had received head injuries. On their advice, they admitted Sunil to Paras Hospital in Gurugram on June 16, 2017. But the doctors at the hospital advised them that instead of neurosurgeon, a neck spine surgeon will treat him. At this stage, the family had informed the doctor's that his neck's operation had already been conducted and he doesn't require neck operation despite that a procedure was carried out, claimed the complainant.

After two months of the operation, the victim's condition worsened. Then the doctors told them that the operation was not successful and removed a rod from his neck. Jangbir also alleged that the hospital management also added some charges of injections and medicine in the bill which was not used in the treatment and when they cross-checked the bill then the hospital management corrected the bill.

"We have received a complaint from the district administration. We also have served a notice to the hospital management to join the probe. We also ask the victim's family to provide the earlier medical report of the patient," Dr B K Rajora, Gurugram Chief Medical Officer, said.
