Vodafone Hungary and Nokia tested in the Balaton area the Nokia Saving Lives platform which enables rescue teams to map disaster areas using a mobile network that uses drones equipped with resolution cameras or thermal camera for searching for survivors. The Nokia Saving Lives project is designed to provide more effective products using new technologies to explore disaster-stricken areas. The platform is based on Nokia's 'backpack-sized' 4G/LTE mobile network called the Nokia Ultra Compact Network, which allows professionals to create a 4G/LTE network within minutes.

An important part of the platform is connected to the network attached to the drones. The complex platform was tested at the Vodafone 2,600 MHz FDD frequency. Nokia Saving Lives can work with Vodafone Foundation's 3G network Vodafone Instant Network, which helps the foundation provide mobile communications support for the humanitarian aid programme. While the former provides 2G and 3G networks for voice calls during disaster situations, the 4G/LTE network is now available for high-speed data transfer such as high definition video streaming.
