Market Now: PSU bank stocks spike on hopes of recapitalization bonds

NEW DELHI: PSU bank stocks hogged limelight in Thursday's trade after ET Now reported, quoting agencies, that the government is planning to take Parliament's approval to issue bonds of Rs 80,000 crore aimed at recapitalising the ailing public sector banks.
Moreover, the finance ministry approved proposal for infusion of Rs 7,577 crore in 6 weak public sector banks (PSBs) as part of the recapitalisation plan to bolster capital adequacy ratio.
Following the development, the Nifty PSU Bank was trading nearly 2 per cent up at 3,692 around 11:10 am (IST) with all components in the green.
Shares of IDBI Bank (up 6.30 per cent), Bank of Baroda (up 3.10 per cent), Punjab National Bank (up 2.91 per cent), Andhra Bank (up 2.88 per cent), Oriental Bank of Commerce (up 2.63 per cent), Bank of India (up 2.58 per cent), Canara Bank (up 2.44 per cent), Union Bank of India (up 2.27 per cent) and State Bank of India (up 1.60 per cent) were among the top gainers in Thursday's trade.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was 12 points up at 10,455, while the BSE Sensex was 50 points up at 33,843.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty50 index, 22 were trading in the green, while 28 were in the red.
Coal India, Larsen & Toubro, Tata Steel and Dr Reddy's Labs were trading among the top gainers in the Nifty50 index.
On the contrary, HCL Technologies, Sun Pharma, Tata Motors, Infosys and Lupin were seen under selling pressure.
