Woman dies after assault at Cloverdale home, man arrested after major police search

A woman has died and a man is in custody after an alleged assault at a home in the Perth suburb of Cloverdale.
Police and St John Ambulance received calls on Wednesday night, amid reports a woman was being assaulted by a man who was known to her at the Hardey Road property.
Paramedics arrived at the scene, but were prevented from entering a house by a man who was acting aggressively, police said.
When police arrived the man was no longer there, and a critically injured 38-year-old woman was taken to Royal Perth Hospital where she later died.
A major police search was launched, and a 40-year-old man was arrested in the southern Perth suburb of Riverdale about 4:00am today.
He remains in custody.
Homicide detectives are urging anyone with information relating to the incident to contact police.
