ROCKFORD — Volunteers are needed for Rockford Reads, a literacy project sponsored by the Rockford Rotary, Rockford Public Schools and Rockford Public Library.
The time commitment is one hour a week.
The project focuses on second grade students in Rockford Public Schools. The goal is to increase the students' exposure to books and language by having adults read aloud to children and listen as children read to them.
Volunteers read one-on-one with students at the school of their choice through May.
Anyone interested in volunteering is asked to contact Marsha Sisney, Parent & Community Engagement coordinator for Rockford Public Schools at 815-966-3271 or sisneym@rps205.com.
Optional training sessions for volunteers will be held in the story time room of the Hart Interim Library, 214 N. Church St. Sessions will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Jan. 24 and 6 to 7 p.m. Jan. 25.
