Newark Liberty International Airport
New Jersey's largest airport is topping the nation in cancellations Thursday, according to FlightAware.
More than 860 flights -- or 72 percent of planes scheduled to leave and 63 percent of flights due to arrive at the airport -- were cancelled at Newark Liberty as of 7 a.m. Thursday, according to FlightAware.
Another 82 flights were scratched for Friday, though that number could rise later in the day depending on the severity of the storm.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the agency that oversees the airport said it has plows, snow melters and other equipment ready to clear the runways as soon as the storm passes.
"If warranted, the Port Authority also is prepared to accommodate ticketed passengers who may become stranded at the airports," Port Authority officials said in a statement.
United Airlines, the largest carrier at Newark Airport, is allowing passengers with tickets for Thursday and Friday to switch to new flights for free.
