How do people in the North East get to work

Rail passengers have seen their fares rocket up this week - but how many people in the North East will it actually effect?

Although rail prices have become the focus of national attention and political debate, the numbers show that the discussion has very little to do with the North East.

Analysis of passenger data reveals that just 1% of daily commuters in the region use the rail to get to work - so how do people get around at rush hour in the North East?

Rainy commute this morning

Rain has been moving north into our region with heavy downpours expected for the rest of the day.

Take care on your morning commute and remember your umbrella!

Quiet week on the roads

With most schools not back until next week and some workers extending their Christmas holidays, the roads have been fairly quiet and trouble-free this week.

Across the region, traffic is moving well with no collisions or breakdowns to report.

Busy in Newcastle and Sunderland

Busy on the A167(M) Central Motorway now heading north from the Swan House Roundabout.

There is also the usual congestion on the A1231 St Michaels Way in Sunderland.

Lights still off at Moor Farm

Traffic lights are still not working on the A19 at Moor Farm Roundabout in Cramlington.

Engineers are aware of the issue and repairs are expected to last for the rest of the week.

Strike action called on Northern trains

A replacement bus service is set to run for Northern trains between Newcastle and the Metrocentre on Monday due to strike action.

Not every bus will be stopping at Dunston.

This will run from 6.30am until 7.30pm.

How is the weather looking today?

Rain, heavy at times, will spread in from the southwest during the morning, wintry across hills.

The outbreaks of rain are expected to persist through the afternoon.

Maximum temperature will be 6C.
