State plow hit by car whose driver fled in Cornwall, police say

Litchfield County road report: Stay snowed in, crews advise

LITCHFIELD COUNTY — “Stay off the roads,” State Trooper Richard Binkowski at Troop B said early Thursday afternoon as callers reported being stuck in blizzard conditions throughout the Northwest Corner. “There are only so many plow trucks.”

High winds whipped fallen and falling snow back on roadways as soon as they were plowed, making some roads impassable. Many secondary roads hadn’t been plowed.

Callers who reported being stuck were in white out conditions.

In Cornwall, a hit and run driver struck a state Department of Transportation plow truck, and fled. Both vehicles suffered minor damage at about 12:30 p.m.

“We have the license plate and know who it is,” Binkowski said.

At Troop B, 19-year-old Mya Marshall of Amenia, N.Y. turned herself in Wednesday on a failure to appear warrant expecting to end up in Superior Court in Torrington today but found herself instead in the basement lockup at Troop B for another day. The courts were closed.
