PhD Students and Postdoctoral Scientists : Freiburg, Germany

University Medical Center Freiburg is a full-service hospital and one of the largest in Europe. More than 11,000 employees care for patients’ health and well-being around the clock. The research group of Ian Frew, Department of Hematology, Oncology and Stem Cell Transplantation, seeks to recruit several highly motivated PhD students and a postdoctoral scientist to join a team of researchers studying clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC).

PhD Students and Postdoctoral Scientists

Starting date: As early as possible

We offer multiple projects that aim to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying ccRCC metastasis, the role of epigenetic tumour suppressors in ccRCC biology and interactions of ccRCC tumour cells with cells of the immune microenvironment. Building upon our recent advance in generating an accurate mouse model of ccRCC (Nature Medicine, 2017, 23:869-877) these projects will continue to place a strong emphasis on the development of new mouse genetic models in order to systematically uncover the relationships between tumour genotypes, phenotypes and responses to conventional and immuno-therapies. The laboratory employs a wide variety of modern research methods in cellular and molecular biology, mouse genetic engineering and tumour modelling, biochemistry, histology, RNA seq, ChIP seq, lentiviral and retroviral shRNA and CRISPR libraries, as well as chemical drug screening libraries. All projects will be conducted in team-based research structures in a vibrant, English-speaking scientific environment that has close ties to several clinical departments.

We welcome applications:
- for PhD positions from candidates with completed Bachelor and Master degrees (or equivalent qualifications) in a relevant biological or medical discipline. Research experience with methods in molecular biology, molecular cloning, protein biology, cell culture, histology, mouse studies or bioinformatics would be beneficial but not essential
- PhD graduates (or M.D. graduates with equivalent laboratory experience) with research experience in any relevant area of tumour biology are encouraged to apply for the available postdoctoral position; the laboratory hopes to support successful candidates in their applications for postdoctoral fellowships

Further information:
- about the laboratory, including a link to our publications, can be found under: https://www.uniklinik-freiburg.de/medizin1/forschung/experimentelle-forschung/frew-laboratory.html
- starting dates and contract durations will be determined with each successful candidate on an individual basis

Please include the following in your application: Motivation letter; CV; Copy of relevant graduation certificates; Copy of University grades; any other relevant documents; Letters of reference or contact details of two referees.

Please submit your application as PDF to Ms. Hilde Vogel (hilde.vogel@uniklinik-freiburg.de) preferably by email. Applications will be assessed as they are received and will be open until the positions have been filled throughout 2018.
