School was out over the holidays, but wrestling season was in full swing. Some of the top teams in the area were in action at the Damascus Holiday Tournament, POWERade Wrestling Tournament and Mount Mat Madness, among others.

Damascus won its own tournament with a team score of 217.5 points, with second-place Glenelg totaling 120 points. The Gladiators would have preferred a more narrow gap, but were also pleased to walk away with two first-place finishers (120-pounder Kevin Hansberger and 132-pounder Jared Thomas). Huntingtown (74 points) earned fifth place.

Battlefield was impressive at a prestigious national tournament once again, with a top-25 finish at POWERade. Spalding, meanwhile, finished fifth at Mount Mat Madness, ahead of Leonardtown (11th) and St. John’s (21st).
